The Courage of Leadership….Are Your Leaders Adept at Facing Up to People-Problems?

Written by Claire Knowles on . Posted in Latest News

Layout 1“Where have all the Leaders gone?” is a poignant question for today’s stressed workplaces.

In my former career as HR and Labor Relations Manager for DuPont, and now as a business leadership consultant, I note that “the leadership courage factor”…is often absent or weak….exampled by conflict avoiders–unwilling to confront issues or take on the heat of controversy, afraid to be wrong, unable to step up to issues. Thus, we find Leaders in title but not in stature; weakness when our workplaces need strength; and fewer leaders who will provide current, direct, complete, and actionable positive and corrective feedback to others. (I’m not talking about my way-or the highway leaders). I’m talking about real, authentic, collaborative-yet-can-stand-in-the-heat Leaders!  I’m talking about Leaders who have the courage to stand up to, and to eliminate the snarking behaviors and tear-down mentality of workplaces that are steeped in unprofessionalism and poor behaviors; to address not only the “what” of the work to be done, yet also the “how” of working together to fulfill the mission, ensuring a sense of sanity for the workplace. What are you seeing?

In response to instilling stronger leadership in our workplaces, I’ve written the book, “Can You See Them Now? (Elephants in our Midst)” which recently became an Amazon best seller. The descriptor: Discover the Hidden Elephants Lurking in Your Organization or Work-Team; Then
Vanquish Them. (Written for HR Managers, Executives, Leaders, Supervisors, Managers, and Team-Leaders and Consultants working towards sanity in our workplaces).

”Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.” ~ Ambrose Redmoon.
