Our over-stressed lives are showing! Take a look at what’s happening in society—stressed workplaces, longer work hours, 24-hour electronic leashes, mean, snarky people-behavior-encounters, and huge sales of energy-drinks and Vitamin B-supplements as daily regimens! Magazine headlines at the check-out counters repeatedly contain articles on stress-reduction. All of these provide tell-tale signs of an increasingly complex environment that is “both demanding of us, and taking from the very essence our lives.” Is it any wonder we crave Serenity? Sweet Serenity?
How are you doing? What coping skills have you developed to bring some balance and tranquility into your life? (For me, it is Tai Chi, favorite music, and deep breathing along with heavy-dose prioritizing of what matters most. Others find help by engaging in yoga, journaling, mindfulness practices, religious studies, or the physical—runs, swims, biking, gym workouts, nature walks. How do you de-stress?)
Interestingly, AOL and Huffington Post have teamed up to offer “Serenity Saturdays”…with articles and advice on how to bring some serenity into one’s life.
I’ve occasionally perused this AOL Saturday page and find it to be a very helpful means of providing some degree of remedy—and in a way that has potential impact for many stressed-out women. And Oprah and Dr. Oz have teamed up too, for help in dealing with stress. Here’s a link to their stress-self-test:
In a related way, my book, Lights On! (Illuminations to Move Your Life Forward) has become the “graduation gift” for women who are completing a residential program for achieving self-sufficiency. These are women who have much stress in their lives and who have had to overcome extreme odds, when life was “hugely stacked against them.”
Why this Lights On! book? Because of its positivity…and its well-paced articles that can move you forward with your lights on! A little bit of serenity–light, hope, joy and positivity for a stressed-out world! Lights On!
